Because of the Covid 19 outbreak it is not possible to run any workshops at the moment. Please contact Annette if you are interested in attending a workshop in the future.

2 day course, from 10.30 to 5pm – Price £165

This course covers linocut and mixed media printing. Students get to print onto fabric – linen, cotton, satin etc., to create several cushion cover fronts or wall-hangings. A calico shopping bag and a blank medium-sized silk scarf are also included to block print onto, along with half a dozen blank greetings cards and sheets of paper.

Annette teaches only two students each time who receive lots of individual tuition, and have plenty of scope to create and print several variations of their print blocks within the allotted time.

The aspects that have most delighted the students have been exploring the different marks made by the carving and engraving tools, the range of imagery possible and how to ink creatively and colourfully.

Many have discovered ‘jigsaw’ linocuts for the first time and produced multi-coloured images using one print block. They have explored painterly stencil prints onto fabric too, experimenting with impressions of leaves, grasses feathers and lace etc., combined with block-printing of linocut motifs. Almost all students aim to purchase their own tools and materials to continue printing at home, which Annette gives guidance on plus suppliers lists.

Annette provides all materials – lino, vinyl, carving tools, drill, inks, rollers, printing press, paper, fabric (linen, cotton, satin), calico shopping bag, silk scarf, 6 greetings card blanks. Teas, coffees, biscuits are also provided. She has recommendations for local accommodation if needed.

Develop a linocut image, either A6 or A5 in scale.  Try out professional cutting tools, experiment with mark-making. Use traditional grey lino and a new softer vinyl.

Carve the image then print in black and white on paper through a printing press as well as learning hand printing techniques. Subsequently, print over a monoprinted background, then try over-printing in colour. Print several prints in the session, fabric off-cuts available as well as a selection of papers. Explore some colour inking, masking and layering techniques if time allows.

If you have any images that you would like to work with please bring them along, otherwise there will be images provided. Bring a packed lunch and an apron.

£75 per person, 10.30am to 4.30pm
