textiles & mixed media
I am a Norwich based Textile designer/artist who uses a range of textile techniques and upcycling materials to create innovative pieces.
There are currently three areas to my work
Can art – Reused aluminium beer cans as a material has been a significant component of my work. With a woven textile design background a cycle of collecting, selecting, cutting, manipulating and placing materials producing collage and sculptural effects. The procedure for making has developed into an intricate process measuring, precision and calculating sizes of each component, colour, pattern, sequencing and repeat.
Open to commissions collect your favourite cans and I will create the artwork.
Metal & Stitch – Inspired by the intricacies of embroidery, goldwork, and reusing metal materials. An experimental approach exploring oxidation of copper, embellishing with wire, stitch and beading.
Scarves – upcycling fabric materials and needle felting with merino wool fibres to create textured puckered effects for wearable art/scarves or decorative hangings. This process is a development from my degree woven textile products produced where wool and contrasting properties of yarns have been used. During the finishing process unexpected elements of surprise uncontrollably happen creating unusual surfaces. Inspiration for current collection has been taken from recent travel adventures, providing a visual feast of the natural environment.
