Steph Baker is a Norfolk-based abstract artist working across landscape and contemporary painting. Her work is defined by bold colour, strong composition and layered texture, creating pieces with real presence and impact.

From large-scale canvases to small, mixed-media works on salvaged materials, her practice explores structure, surface and the relationship between colour and form. The materials she works with — particularly reclaimed wood — bring their own character to each piece, adding weight, texture and a sense of history.

Rooted in the big skies she lives under, her work carries a sense of scale, openness and energy. While visually direct, there is a quieter depth running through the work — an ongoing interest in pattern, connection and the rhythms that sit beneath everyday life. This is not something heavily defined, but something that reveals itself over time.

Alongside her landscape work, her Mortal Canvas series takes a more expressive approach, exploring the physicality of paint and the relationship between fragility and structure. Though visually distinct, both strands are connected by a shared focus on how a piece holds together — materially, visually and emotionally.

Her work can be experienced simply for its impact — bold, colour-led pieces that bring energy and presence into a space — or engaged with more deeply through the ideas that sit beneath it.
