Showcase Exhibition | August – October 2021

The next Showcase will run throughout August, September and October 2021. We are excited to welcome three artists to the showcase exhibition space, which is located on the first floor at designermakers21. Exhibiting work will be Katie Hay-Molopo, Dominic Upson and Peny Conway (Cornfield Glass).

Katie Hay-Molopo – Mixed Media “My current work frequently combines text and images, in digital and traditional media formats, often in black and white. The goal of my work is to celebrate small things, create space for thoughtful reflection and gratitude, and exemplify arts’ ability to be beautiful, connect people and bring joy.”

Dominic Upson – Ceramics “Functional pottery for day to day use, simple and lively mark making with different types of slip. I make work on the potter’s wheel, then finish off the pieces with handles or foot rings. Glazing varies depending on what kiln I use to fire the work, electric firing, gas firing to get iron spots out of the clay. The salt firing which gives the work a beautiful orange peel surface. Wood firing gives beautiful flame flashing on the pots.”

Peny Conway – Glass “I make fused glass plates, bowls and other pieces. Processes include cutting glass, using fibre paper to carve relief and fusing in a kiln.”

You can visit the Showcase Exhibition from the 5th August 2021, during designermakers21 opening hours Thursday-Saturday 10am-5pm.

‘Anima’ – Finding the Magic of Breckland | 9th September- 9th October 2021

Fay Jones Solo Exhibition

Fay Jones is pleased to present her first solo show, in the Upstairs Gallery at designermakers21. The exhibition will be open from Thursday 9th September during gallery hours Thurs-Sat 10am to 5pm.

Breckland is a place of long mysteries and small wonders. Ignoring modern boundaries it is a strongly defined landscape that allows for deep thought and contemplation. By keen observation and many exploratory wanderings, the lands wild undercurrents become apparent.

Using the rich natural resources of this stark environment, the many notional fragments are now collected into a whole. Made in wood, bark, chalk and bone, with nods to the ways of earlier times by using experimentally cast bronze, wild plant fibres and natural dyes.”

Online Preview live from 3rd August at The Woodland Haberdasher

Help support this exhibition via Indiegogo

Evening Preview, all welcome – Friday 3rd September 2021, 6.30-8.30pm @ designermakers21. Refreshments available.

White Buffalo Crafts

Traditional hand stitched leather goods made with care and commitment

White Buffalo Crafts is a small craft business where the ethos is very much about the use of traditional materials, tools and skills in the design and production of useful and attractive leather goods.

The majority of the leather we use is vegetable tanned, using tree bark to produce a durable, flexible and attractive material to work with. Linen thread (made from the flax plant) is used for stitching, and much of our fittings are solid brass.

Apart from making beautiful leather goods we also:

  • Teach
    and run leather working courses
  • Conserve,
restore and repair old much loved leather articles
  • Make
bespoke items to customer specification or design
  • Run
    leather working demonstrations and talks
  • Leather
    reupholstery (small items)

We’re based in Stanton, Suffolk where you can visit us to discuss your leather working needs. During the summer we travel around Suffolk and Norfolk to a variety of shows, and have had our goods displayed at designermakers 21 in Diss.
