The Nettle Dress Film

This beautifully constructed documentary sensitively tracks the journey of textile artist Allan Brown who spent seven years making a dress by hand using only the fibre of locally foraged stinging nettles.

Postcard Art Sale

Postcard Art Sale – Of Art created in the 6×4 inch ‘postcard’ format

designermakers21 present a sale of Art created by artists well know, known, and known well by some, in a variety of mediums.

All work has been freely donated by supporters of designermakersCIO to raise funds for the ‘Save Our Story’ campaign.

The entire collection will be on display at The Corn Hall, Diss on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th May, after which it will move to designermakers21.

The Sale will commence at 6.30pm at our ‘Jig ‘n a Gig’ to be held at The Corn Hall on Saturday 13th May.

Postcards will cost £25 each and the sale will continue until Saturday 27th May when the purchased postcards will be available to collect from designermakers21. The artists will all remain anonymous until the end of the sale.

Join us for a fantastic evening of music and dancing, and help celebrate designermakers21’s ’10th Birthday’

Fairgreen Ceilidh Band
An excellent, lively, local band guaranteed to get you on your feet, whether a novice or seasoned ceilidh goer.  

Aartwork

Aartwork play upbeat fiery, liquid, trad style original tunes on fiddle and recorder with old school live beats, jazzy guitar, bass synths and haunting, ethereal vocals. This is where folk meets drum and bass, reggae and jungle. The result is hard not to dance to.

The mix has been described as Psychedelic Celtic Folk Fusion.

St. Nicholas Christmas Fayre

Sunday 15th December 11am to 4pm

The magic starts in St. Nicholas Street, Market Hill, Cobbs Yard and Norfolk House Yard

Traders, shopkeepers and cafes will hold a special Christmas Fayre right in the heart of Diss.

Stall holders will be situated in designermakers21 and in both Yards selling a wide range of artisan gifts and foods. Enjoy hog roasts, hot chestnuts and mulled wine and cider, meet Santa Claus. Also a Christmas raffle with brilliant prizes.

Free lantern making at the Diss Corn Hall 2 to 4pm. Lantern procession at 4.30.

NI GOODING – SCREENPRINT

DEMONSTRATIONS 11am To 2.30pm. An opportunity to pull a colour through a small screen onto a partially completed screen-print prepared by Ni.


@ THE CORN HALL – Main Foyer

CUPISS LETTERPRESS

DEMONSTRATIONS 11am to 1.45pm then 2.30pm till 4pm. An opportunity to ‘have a go’ at selecting your very own lettering and print using their press. Charge £ 2.00 a go.


@ THE CORN HALL – Upper Gallery

CELIA HART – HANDPRINTING LINO BLOCKS WITH A BURNISHER.

DEMONSTRATIONS 11am to 1pm them 1.45 to 4pm. An opportunity to watch Celia ink up her small intricate lino blocks with water based inks and hand print them using a burnisher.


@ designermakers21 – in the Upstairs Exhibition Space

DEMONSTRATIONS AND ‘HAVE A GO’ – 11 am to 4pm – half hour break for lunch.

ZELDA EADY – LINO CUTS

Zelda curates the Espacio Print Fair in London and is a part-time tutor at Curwen Press. She will be offering have a go sessions trying out linocut. She will have the use of a mobile press and the public can create their own linocut print to take away. A small charge of £3.00 to cover materials will be made.


LIZ TAUNT – DRYPOINT

Liz is Bungay based and participates in the Norwich Print Fair. She will offer drypoint using a special drypoint papercard technique and have access to a mobile printing press. The public can create a linear, tonal drypoint print to take away. A small charge of £3.00 to cover materials will be made.


DI GRIFFITHS – WOOD ENGRAVING

Di will be demonstrating wood engraving and will have displays of her work and be available for questions. She also makes etchings, linocuts, collagraphs, and uses letterpress and is a bookbinder. Her work is in the Bircham Gallery in Holt.


@ designermakers21 – In Old Forge

DEMONSTRATIONS  11 am to 4pm – half hour break for lunch.

MARCO RAYMENT – SCREEN PRINTING

Marco will be demonstrating screenprint through the courtyard in The Old White Forge. People can watch or take part in a free have a go session. Marco was a screenprint tutor at London College of Print and is now a trustee of designermakers21 and runs screenprinting sessions with local schools and community groups.
