Andrea Hannon is a contemporary ceramic and paper artist based in South Norfolk. Working across drawing, ceramic sculpture, collage, and print, her practice explores ideas of gender, identity and the roles assigned to women through social and cultural expectations. Drawing from a wide range of historic and contemporary sources—including encyclopaedias, magazines, books, found imagery and everyday objects—she creates surreal two- and three-dimensional works that question how gendered narratives are constructed, performed and sustained.
Central to Andrea’s practice is an ongoing interest in the relationship between women and the home. She considers the domestic space not simply as a site of labour, care and expectation, but as something intrinsically connected to the body itself. Like our biological form, the home is composed of interconnected rooms, hidden spaces and intricate internal structures that contain memory, experience and identity. Through her work, she explores how women embody the home and, in turn, how domestic environments become extensions of the self.
Born in Coventry in 1982, she completed her BA and MA in Fine Art at Coventry University, and was awarded a PhD in Visual Arts in 2014. Andrea became a lecturer of Fine Art at both Coventry University and De Montfort University, Leicester until 2017, when after having her first child she moved to London. In 2021 she, along with her young family moved to Norfolk, a place that has captured their hearts for years.
