About Joy

A long time studio member at designermakers21, Joy is a talented mosaic artist, creating intricate designs in her collection of platters, tables and wall panels.

“I have been struck by the appropriateness of mosaic as a medium to express my creativity; indeed I see my life up to this point as a mosaic of different disciplines and experiences, all of which play a part in my design process.

Walking in the countryside I enjoy the profusion of shapes and colours which aggregate into beautiful, complex patterns. With my mosaics  I am trying to capture the fluid nature of these patterns using hard unyielding pieces of ceramic and glass. I aim to convey the excitement and thrill found in the explosion of diversity where edges meet, while still maintaining the calm completeness of the whole.”

About the Workshop

Come and join Joy at designermakers21 for a one day mosaic (direct method) workshop, where you will design and make your own ‘Moon Mosaic’.

Learn how to cut and shape glass tesserae and stained glass. Combine the shapes with pre-formed pieces, and assemble your design on a purpose cut baker board. Joy will guide you through all the stages needed to relasie a beautiful piece, including how to grout and finish, enabling you to produce an eye-catching and durable mosaic.
