Kate is a ceramicist specialising in wheel-thrown stoneware, creating beautiful pieces for everyday use. Born and raised in Suffolk, Kate went on to study Design Crafts at De Montfort University in Leicester, where she developed her love for all things clay!

Kate’s ceramic collection is made on the potter’s wheel, and includes mugs, jugs and bowls, which sit alongside a range of vases. All pieces are beautifully decorated in dusky blues, charcoal greys and mustard yellows, giving the work a fresh contemporary feel. Kate’s abstract designs are often inspired by marks and patterns found in her local landscape; grasses swaying in the wind, a meandering river, and the moon over the Suffolk fields.

After the slip (liquid clay) decoration has been applied, the pieces are left until completely dry and then fired in an electric kiln to 1000 degrees. Each pot is then dipped in a transparent glaze before firing again to a high temperature (1250 degrees), vitrifying the clay to produce a wonderful depth of colour.

As well as creating her range of products Kate also accepts commissions, and loves working directly with customers to create unique, bespoke pieces.

Since May 2021 Kate has been running Ceramics workshops at designermakers21, including wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques. For more information contact Kate on the email below.
