A NEW CRAFTS STUDIO AND SHOP FOR DISS

designermakers21 is an exciting initiative promoting the growth of local designers and craftspeople breathing new life into a large, historic empty shop on St. Nicholas Street, Diss, making full use of the warren of Victorian rooms. Sponsored by the Corn Hall Trust and supported by the generosity of Diss Quakers, designermakers21 aims to build a collective of local makers and to encourage the growth of creative businesses.

Starting with four enthusiastic artists in May 2013, there are now 12 highly skilled and talented designer-makers working in-house. Locals and tourists have warmly welcomed the concept of seeing original artwork develop and many commission unique pieces or attend workshops. Customers regularly 'pop in' to view the latest work and one visitor commented: "...artily amazing, creative and lovely place."

This shared creativity and vibrant atmosphere embraces traditional and contemporary craft practices with an inspiring range of textiles, prints, sculptures, mosaics, baskets, stained glass and digital print.

The Diss Town Team is committed to getting more people shopping in Diss and to bring the historic old town back to life. Its chair Oliver Chapman commented ’The Corn Hall has done great things in revitalising the Heritage Triangle of St Nicholas Street, Market Street, and the Market Place and the designermakers21 will be an added attraction to the impressive range of specialist shops and restaurants we already have in the area.’
